ESAB Tech Tip: How to Properly Set Your Regulator Flowmeter

Print Print

Do you have trouble setting your gas regulator flowmeter to get the proper shielding gas flow rate at the nozzle? Using a gas meter with calibrations will simplify the process. Just follow these steps:

  1. Disengage the roll so your wire doesn’t come through the gun when you pull the trigger.
  2. Place the gas meter with calibrations over the nozzle and pull the trigger.
  3. Read the top of the meter ball.
  4. Adjust the gas pressure to the proper value.
  5. Re-engage the drive rolls.

You’re all set! Remember, for flux-cored wires, you want your flow rate to be somewhere in the 35-45 cubic foot/hr range.
